Who are the Major Donors?

One who contributes according to his riches of thought is the major Donor. Thirukkural explains who is eligible to become a Doctor of Cosmic Law. I reiterate the thought by publishing the Kural from Thirukkural English Couplet:

"Wealth with knowledge makes                                                                                                                                                                                                               Doctor of Cosmic-Law" Kural 38:4

Types of Donors

There are four primary types of donors: individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies. Each type of donor has distinct motivations for giving and varying expectations regarding how their contributions will be utilized.

1. Individual donors are the most prevalent type of donor. They contribute to charitable causes for various reasons, such as having a personal connection to the cause, believing in the organization's mission, or wanting to create a positive impact. Although individual donors generally give smaller amounts compared to other types of donors, they are also more likely to contribute again in the future. To attract individual donors, organizations should concentrate on establishing personal connections and sharing narratives that link donors to the organization's work.

2. Corporate donors are companies that donate funds to charitable causes. They may do so for several reasons, such as enhancing their public image, supporting causes that are significant to their employees or customers, or obtaining tax benefits. Corporate donors typically contribute larger sums of money compared to individual donors but are less inclined to donate again in the future.

3. Foundation donors: Foundations are institutions that provide financial support to charitable causes. They can be established by an individual, a family, or a corporation. Foundations usually offer larger amounts of funding than other donor types but enforce strict guidelines on how the funds can be utilized.

4. Government agencies are dynamic entities that contribute funds to charitable endeavors. Their motivations range from supporting causes aligned with governmental priorities to seeking tax incentives. While government agencies often provide substantial financial support compared to other donors, their likelihood of repeat contributions is comparatively lower.

5. Major Donors: Any one of the above donors may be a Major Donor.. Major Donors are hopefully the ones who would contribute to the needs of the  Project after knowing about every aspect of the Project thoroughly. In other words, a major donor is an individual who makes a substantial monetary contribution that significantly impacts the operations of a fundraising organization. The definition of a 'major donation' varies, with some organizations considering £500 as significant, while others may set the threshold at £10,000. Importantly, major gifts/donations can be given as a one-time donation or spread over a period.
